The father and son team

When Theo Schmid (born 1954) found an injured pigeon as a young boy and nursed it back to health, he discovered his passion for racing pigeons at an early age. It was not until 1982, when he took up residence with his wife in Steg in the Valais, that he had his own loft and joined the club in 1986. Since the season 2019, his son Michel is also in the club and makes his father fierce competition. Both father and son send their small traveling team consisting of 12 widowers each from the same beat. There is only one widower beat! The year-old birds that make it into the travel team are divided 1:1 by lot between father and son.

Small but nice

Our pigeon loft are located in the German-speaking area of the canton of Valais. It is a small, well-arranged loft, which has achieved many local successes over the years. The facility consists of breeding, widower and young pigeon lofts. In addition, there is a small loft for the wedding pigeons. Our racing club in Valais is affiliated to the Swiss Racing Pigeon Federation (SBV). This small RV Wallis organizes and operates the club and the race independently. All traveling pigeon lofts are distributed in the Rhone valley, in the middle of an imposing mountainscape. It is hard to believe that in this mountain region it is even possible to play with racing pigeons, we often hear from visitors. This requires excellent and well supplied pigeon material, because the pigeons of the group Wallis fly over mountain ranges up to 3000 m.a.s.l. In this delicate mountain region the entire race of the RV takes place. The weather and the influence of birds of prey also play a decisive role along the entire flight route. Due to this, the flights are adjusted accordingly.

The young pigeon loft can be divided into two compartments. Each of them have their own sputnik.

The breeding loft offers space for the 10 best breeding pairs. The outdoor aviary offers variety and additional space. It is accessible for the pigeons through a closable passage.
